Man climbs mountain after heart attack

Climbing the world’s second tallest mountain is hard enough, but one man from Fishers did it less than a year after having a heart attack, thanks to his care at Community Heart and Vascular Hospital. Now Steve Meier wants to share his story and spread a message of prevention.

Community Health Network names vice president of cardiovascular services

Pamela London has been named vice president of cardiovascular services for Community Health Network and will oversee the health system’s patient-centered cardiovascular programs and operations. London begins her role on April 29, 2013.

Jane Pauley to headline Community Health Network Foundation Gala

The Community Health Network Foundation will bring national talent to its first Gala on Saturday, February 9, at the Westin Indianapolis. Former Today host and author Jane Pauley, and her husband, Garry Trudeau, will join the Indiana Pacers’ George Hill, local corporate leaders and Community Health Network executives, physicians and volunteers, as they raise funds for Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) for area schools, cardiovascular screenings for student athletes and resources to educate and detect heart disease among the area’s most vulnerable populations. Taking care of your heart during the holidays

Laurie Johnson, pulmonary rehab patient at Community Heart and Vascular Hospital, had a heart attack in October of this year. She talks about heart attacks during the holiday season and factors that can increase risk at this time of year, including colder weather, stress/depression and eating more fatty foods. Thanks to her ongoing rehab at Community Heart and Vascular Hospital, she looks forward to this holiday season as she returns to better health.

The Indiana Heart Hospital to be renamed Community Heart and Vascular Hospital

The Indiana Heart Hospital, part of Community Health Network, is changing its name to Community Heart and Vascular Hospital to more closely align the hospital with the “Community” identity. The transition to the new “Community Heart and Vascular Hospital” name, including signage at the facility, will begin October 1. Community Heart and Vascular Hospital is located at 8075 North Shadeland Avenue in Indianapolis, on the Community Hospital North campus.

“The Indiana Heart Hospital, a long-standing anchor on the Community North campus, is changing its name, not only to bring it more closely into the Community Health Network family by name, but also to reflect the comprehensive range of state-of-the-art services and procedures available,” said Tom Malasto, president of Community Heart and Vascular Hospital and chief operating officer for Community Hospitals of Indiana. “What won’t change is the spirit that has made The Indiana Heart Hospital a pioneer in heart and vascular care and a leader in delivering outstanding experiences for patients.” Read more >>

The Indiana Heart Hospital launches cardiovascular genetic counseling center of excellence; Patients can learn risk, take steps to prevent or proactively manage inherited heart disease

Recognizing that many forms of heart disease can be hereditary, Community Health Network recently launched a comprehensive cardiovascular genetic counseling center at The Indiana Heart Hospital. Designed and led by Community Physician Network clinicians specially trained in cardiovascular medical genetics, Community’s program is the first of its kind in the state. Read more >>
