Job opportunities as a radiologic technologist

As a radiologic technologist, you will be part of a career vital to the health care industry. Because of all the technical advancements and new procedures being performed in radiology, there is a demand for radiologic technologists.

Job opportunities exist in hospitals, clinics, doctors’ offices, industry, sales, education and research. Positions are available in almost any community throughout the United States in which you might choose to live.

A career in radiology offers you potential for both professional and personal growth. One of the most important aspects is the satisfaction of knowing that many people depend upon you to help them. The duties of a radiologic technologist are quite diversified.

The current starting salary is approximately $37,500 per year in Indiana.

If you wish to continue your formal education, an Associate of Science degree may be obtained through Ivy Tech Community College. A Bachelor of Science degree in radiology may be obtained in education, medical imaging or management. Most colleges and universities will award a radiologic technologist approximately 30 to 40 credit hours towards a degree in a radiology-related field.

Opportunities for advancement are numerous. Other career areas related to radiology include cardiovascular, interventional radiology, sonography, computerized tomography, magnetic resonance imaging and radiation therapy.
