Nursing at Community Health Network begins with our focus on nursing excellence. At Community, we are committed to the “Six C's of Success.” These are the hallmarks of a rewarding and challenging nursing career. Through their expertise and continuous improvement, our nurses push the boundaries of the nursing profession.

Career development

We’re committed to the growth and development of our nurses, one nurse at a time. Community advocates and offers career advisors who engage nurses in introspective discussion and self discovery. By assisting with internal networking as well as gathering information about local schools, scholarships, tuition assistance programs and certification, Community’s career advisors help their fellow nurses create rewarding careers driven by their goals. Career advisors also offer information on how to change specialties or move among the various care settings within the network.

Competencies

We recognize that learning is a life-long process and that nurses who are more knowledgeable and have better skills ultimately are more fulfilled and provide better patient care. That’s why we’ve created programs such as the Cardiovascular Nursing Institute for nurses interested in specializing in cardiovascular services. The Institute’s four-month program involves classroom teaching, clinical work and a certification exam. It is the first of its kind in Indiana and is recognized by the American College of Cardiovascular Nursing (ACCN). Through this program, Community will become a testing site for ACCN exams and will help establish an Indianapolis chapter of the ACCN.

Customization

Variety is the spice of life, right? Perhaps you’ve built a strong nursing career, but you’ve never had the opportunity to focus on a specific care area that interests you. Or, maybe you’re just starting your nursing career and you’re not sure where you want to focus your career.

At Community, we know the benefits of designing careers around our employees rather than simply recruiting employees for the jobs we offer. We focus on the needs of our nurses, whether it’s as simple as a flexible schedule or mentoring for nurses just starting their careers. Through everything from job sharing to nursing opportunities throughout the entire Community Health Network, our nurses play a primary role in defining their individual career paths.

Compensation

At Community, we’re committed to exploring and creating innovative compensation programs to better serve our nurses. For example, through our Tuition Assistance Benefit Package, Community directly pays the school of choice for each enrolled employee rather than leaving the individual with the responsibility to take care of the tuition payment at the start of the semester. Programs like this are leading the way in the market and more effectively meeting the needs of our nurses.

Connections

Building a future for the nurses of tomorrow requires us to make those connections early. Whether it’s sponsoring nurses through scholarship programs or employing nursing students to help them further their work and education experiences, we’re committed to establishing the right connections that will help us make a difference in the lives of nurses and patients.

Currently, we are partnering with Ball State University, Indiana University, Marian College, University of Indianapolis and Indiana Community College to ensure that we’ve created a vast network of resources for students and employees to enhance their careers.

Celebration

At Community, hard work does not go unnoticed. Rewarding and recognizing exceptional RNs and LPNs who go above and beyond to make a significant difference for their patients and co-workers is at the heart of nursing at Community. Through our Nursing Stars program, we celebrate the work of committed nurses who exceed patient expectations and take on additional challenges beyond their daily responsibilities. Stars are selected from a pool of candidates recommended by team leaders and other nursing stars.
