INDIANAPOLIS – Community Health Network employee and school nurse at Amy Beverland, Linda Bailey, RN, has been named a recipient of the 2016 Pediatric Hero Award by the Indiana Emergency Services for Children Program.
Nominees for this award have provided care to children within the area(s) of: dispatch of emergency care, pre-hospital care, emergency/hospital care, public safety, community leadership and pediatric community advocacy work. She was nominated by Lorrie Ramsey, Nursing Director at Community Health Network, for her clinical and relational skills on January 26, 2016, when a bus at Amy Beverland Elementary jumped the curb at dismissal, hitting two students and killing principal Susan Jordan.
Nurse Bailey triaged children and an adult as a first responder at the scene. Acting quickly, she cared for those injured and then assisted with ensuring the safe dismissal of over 700 students. She remained focused, determining the most immediate needs, triaging calls, reassuring parents, and being “present” to anyone who needed her. She was one of the last to leave that night, remaining as an available resource.
Well-loved by her school family, Nurse Bailey has been part of the Amy Beverland staff for the past twelve years. That love is reciprocated in her daily interactions with students and adults. In the days following the accident, Linda was a rock within the school community, nurturing both colleagues and students. Her role as the Amy Beverland school nurse has had a far-reaching effect on the school and surrounding community, and Lawrence Township Schools are thrilled that she has earned this prestigious recognition.
