Community Hospital South, Community Hospital Anderson, Community Howard Regional Health join Community Hospitals North and East in collaboration with MD Anderson Cancer Network®

Indianapolis, IN--Two years ago, Community Hospital North and Community Hospital East became Indiana’s first hospitals to be exclusively affiliated with MD Anderson Cancer Network®, a program of MD Anderson Cancer Center, one of the nation’s leaders in cancer care. Today, Community Health Network is the first healthcare organization to achieve system-wide recognition by MD Anderson Cancer Network as a certified member. This means that the five hospital locations providing qualified cancer services in the network have met the rigorous standards to treat cancer patients with MD Anderson evidence-based guidelines and best practices. Community Hospital South, Community Hospital Anderson, and Community Howard Regional Health are the latest facilities to become certified.

“This is a wonderful achievement for Community Health Network’s oncology program,” said Bryan Mills, president and CEO of Community Health Network. “Our oncology physicians have completed a tremendous amount of work to reach a level of expertise required to be affiliated with MD Anderson Cancer Network®. I said two years ago that it was a game changer for two of our hospitals to achieve MD Anderson Cancer Network affiliation. As this relationship expands network-wide, we have the ability to help cancer-stricken Hoosiers across the state of Indiana, providing them with the best cancer treatments available.”

This collaboration provides certified oncologists at all Community hospitals with inpatient cancer programs access to evidence- based guidelines, treatment plans and concordance studies developed by MD Anderson experts. These are disease-specific guidelines for cancer treatment, cancer prevention, early detection and follow-up care, bringing new hope to local cancer patients by using treatment guidelines developed by a national leader in cancer care. The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center has been ranked one of the top two cancer centers in the nation since U.S. News & World Report’s “Best Hospitals” survey began 25 years ago.

“Community Health Network and its oncologists have demonstrated a commitment to providing quality care for the cancer patients they treat,” said Bill Murphy M.D., chairman, MD Anderson Physicians Network. “Community has also proven to be a great collaborator in communicating the value of our affiliation to patients in Central Indiana, and our collaborative effort will serve as an excellent model for any future affiliations.”
