Community Touchpoint senior meal program expands to Community Hospital North
10,000th meal served program-wide
Indianapolis, IN---Community Hospital North is the latest expansion in Community Touchpoint Á la Carte Senior Meals. Launched in 2011 at Community Hospital East in partnership with CICOA Aging & In-Home Solutions, the program also serves Community Anderson, South and Westview through additional grant money from the Walmart Foundation and other generous Community Health Network Foundation donors.
The goal of Touchpoint Á la Carte is to expand meal options for seniors by offering healthy, balanced and nutritious options, while providing opportunities for social engagement with Community Touchpoint’s senior services programs.
Meal recipients must be 60 and older, or the spouse of an enrollee. Up to four meal vouchers are available each month, and voucher distribution at all sites is the first Wednesday of the month, beginning at 10 a.m. Availability is first come first served.
Meal vouchers can be redeemed for breakfast, lunch or dinner at the hospital cafeterias, and designated menus are designed by a registered dietitian to ensure a nutritionally balanced meal for seniors. Participants choose a meat or protein item, one hot side item, one cold side item and a beverage.
When the meal program launched in 2011, 238 seniors were enrolled within the first two years. A grant from the Walmart Foundation allowed expansion to Community Anderson, South and Westview in 2013, and further funding from CICOA Aging & In-Home Solutions, Clearvista Lake Health Campus and Castleton Healthcare Center covered the expansion to Community North. Touchpoint Á la Carte now serves 867 seniors at all sites, and served its 10,000th meal in April.
When seniors enroll in the meal program, they are automatically enrolled in the free membership program hosted by Community Touchpoint, and the equivalent program at Community Anderson. Enrollment connects seniors to health screenings, educational events, volunteer opportunities and more.
