Community Health Network breaks ground for medical pavilion on Indianapolis' east side; Investment of $12 million will improve health care access and promote economic development

For release on May 17, 2011

Indianapolis, IN---Community Health Network officially broke ground on a $12 million construction project at I-465 and Washington Street that will improve access to health care and support economic development on Indianapolis’ east side.

While site work had been initiated, official ground breaking occurred in a small ceremony on Friday, May 6. The site, located on six acres at 7910 East Washington Street, will house a three-story medical building that will include a variety of health care services in 55,000 square feet of space.

Plans call for the project to be completed in early 2012. The new Community Health Pavilion will offer convenient access to the primary care physicians from Community Physicians of Indiana; specialty physicians; advanced imaging services; Mid America Clinical Labs; rehab and sports medicine; and other health-related services. Existing MedCheck and Community Occupational Health Services offices at 17th and Post Road will also relocate to this new pavilion.

The pavilion will house the Laughner Community Room, named for the Laughner family, whose cafeteria resided on the land for generations. The room will be used for health classes and community health screenings.

Alderson Commercial Group, Inc. is the pavilion’s developer.

“Community Health Network and its physician’s are honored to have provided health care services to the residents and businesses of the east side of Indianapolis for over fifty years,” said Jon Fohrer, CEO of Community Health Network’s ambulatory division. “The new health pavilion will provide for greater access, additional services and a single location for patients to receive the majority of their health care needs.”

Robin Ledyard, M.D. and president of Community Hospital East, said the pavilion will provide convenient access to outpatient care for east side residents.

“Community Health Network is committed to providing state of the art care for residents of the east side,” Ledyard said. “This pavilion will be a medical home for our patients, allowing us to deliver quality care closer to where residents live, work and play.”
