Indianapolis, IN---Community Health Network is pleased to announce the selection of Mike Blanchet as president and CEO of Community Hospitals of Indiana, Inc. (CHI), effective June 1, 2009. Blanchet, formerly the president of Community Hospital South, had been serving as interim president and CEO of CHI since late 2008.
“Mike has been an invaluable member of the network team for over 25 years,” said William Corley, CEO of Community Health Network. “He has demonstrated passion, talent and integrity as a leader and physician partner. In this role, I am confident he will continue to enhance and strengthen the network culture.”
Blanchet’s responsibilities will include providing executive leadership and direction of CHI, which includes Community Hospitals East, North and South; Community Home Health Services; and ambulatory services in the Indianapolis market. He will be responsible for achieving strategic, operational and financial success in each of these operations.
“Mike has been a long-term leader with Community Health Network,” said Bryan Mills, network president and CEO-elect. “Mike has done a phenomenal job at Community South and has been exposed to many different areas of leadership throughout the network. He is an extraordinary person and I am delighted to work with him as part of the leadership team.”

An employee of Community Health Network since 1981, Blanchet most recently served as president of Community Hospital South, a 110-bed acute care facility on the south side of Indianapolis. He took on that role in 1999 and has currently been overseeing the hospital’s $130 million expansion project, which will be completed mid-year 2010. Prior to this role, he focused on physician relationships, planning and marketing.
His career includes past roles as a base representative/visiting instructor with Southern Illinois University’s off-campus program offering baccalaureate degrees in health administration at both the NationalNavalMedicalCenter in Bethesda, Maryland, and WalterReedArmyMedicalCenter in Washington, D.C. He also served as director, project review, for the Central Indiana Health Systems Agency in Indianapolis from May 1978 to August 1981.
Blanchet received a bachelor’s degree in zoology from the University of Massachusetts in Amherst, Massachusetts. He obtained his master’s degree in public health (health administration) from the University of Oklahoma in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
In his private life, Blanchet serves on the boards of the Greater Greenwood Chamber of Commerce, Partnership for a HealthierJohnsonCounty, and Indiana Pro Health Network. He is married to his wife, Mary, who is a nurse practitioner with Community Health Network. Together, they enjoy bicycling, running and spending time with their grandchildren.
