Community Hospital North hosts eCycling event; Public encouraged to dispose of old personal computers and electronics during drive-through recycling effort

For release: 8/26/2008

Indianapolis, IN---Community Hospital North will host its first eCycling event in its commitment to sustain a green environment.  On Friday, September 5, the public is encouraged to bring personal computers and other electronics for disposal to the hospital between 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.   Hospital employees will collect items in the southeast parking lot of the hospital during the drive-through event. Consumers can follow the signs as they enter the campus and look for the eCycling tent.

Community is partnering with Computer Experts, Keep Indianapolis Beautiful, Virtual Scavengers and 1-800-GOT-JUNK for this event.  In addition to old personal computers, the public is invited to bring small appliances and electronics, such as: printers; monitors; key boards and mice; copiers; scanners; fax machines; all-in-ones; CD player/recorders; DVD player/recorders; VCR’s; stereo equipment; satellite receivers; TiVo boxes; cell phones; telephones; microwaves; cameras; camcorders; and anything with a cord to the hospital for the recycling effort.  Some TVs and computer monitors may be assessed a $5 fee, as they contain hazardous substances that require special handling.  The technology partners will erase all personal information from computers and cell phones, or consumers may use hard drive-erasing software before bringing items to the event.

“"This drive-through event provides a great opportunity for residents to dispose of old personal computers and other electronics that can harm the environment if not recycled properly,” said Ed Koschka, network vice president of information technology and chief information officer for Community Health Network. "  “This is a major project for our employees to show their commitment to being green—and just one step we can take as a health care leader in the community to play our part in protecting the environment."”

Community Health Network is proud to be a green health care organization.  The network is looking at ways to incorporate green initiatives into each CommunityHospital and facility.  A number of efforts are underway to conserve energy, recycle and reduce waste.

Consumers who have questions about the eCycling event can email gogreen@eCommunity.com or call (317)-355-9600.
