Community Hospital Anderson opened in 1962 and joined Community Health Network in 1996. A new emergency department, obstetrics area and outpatient services were also added in 1996.
Community Hospital East opened in 1956 with 300 beds and 111 employees as the first hospital in the Community Health Network. The country's only Center for Interventional Radiology opened in 2004. In early 2007, a new $7-million high-tech radiation oncology treatment facility opened, followed by a new medical oncology center later that year.
Community Hospital North opened in 1985 as the second hospital in the Community Health Network. In 2007, the Community North Expansion was completed, and included a new six-story patient tower, state-of-the-art maternity, pediatric and neonatal intensive care units, new front entrance, five-story professional building, six-story parking garage, and a complete renovation of existing buildings.
Community Hospital South opened as Medico Environs in 1961 before moving to its current site in 1982. In 2002 Community Hospital South expanded its cardiovascular services, adding a recovery room, research space and a Healthy Hearts Center. In 2007, an emergency room expansion opened, showcasing the new "green" ER; the fully renovated emergency room opened in January 2008. The Next Evolution of Community Hospital South was announced in 2008 and is expected to be completed in 2010.
In 2003 Community Health Network raised the standard for cardiovascular care in our community—and in the nation—with the addition of The Indiana Heart Hospital, the first all digital hospital in the world. The hospital was designed by cardiac doctors and nurses, and includes a 24-hour emergency room for heart care, with a cardiologist on-site around the clock. The Indiana Heart Hospital was named a Thomson Healthcare Top 100 Hospital for cardiovascular care in 2006, 2007 and 2008 and is the only hospital in Indiana to receive this honor for the last three years.
