New technology at Community Hospital South
Recent technology updates at the CHS Medical Imaging department include a new 1.5T wide bore MRI, a new nuclear medicine camera, and an upgrade to our interventional radiology lab. These updates allow us to stay at the forefront of medical imaging technology so that we can continue to offer the highest-quality imaging.
1.5T wide bore MRI
- 32 channels allow for higher resolution imaging
- 550 lbs table limit
- 70cm wide bore gantry for increased patient comfort
- Decreased scan times
- Ability to offer high end imaging such a prostate scanning without the discomfort of an anal probe, liver scanning and body imaging
Infinia nuclear medicine camera
- High-quality images while decreasing radiation dose
- 440 lbs table limit
- Ability to decrease imaging times
Interventional radiology upgrade
- High-contrast, high-resolution 3D views of anatomy
- Ability to visualize only the anatomy of interest
Your exam images are stored on the Community Health Network PACS (Picture Archiving and Communication System). This system allows our radiologists to compare any prior studies you may have had to your current study. It also allows your physician to review your images remotely.
CT - The full line of CT applications includes neuro (brain/spine), body, pulmonary, orthopedic, interventional and angiography. 3D imaging is completed using state-of-the-art post-processing technology.
MRI - Applications include high-field imaging for neuro (brain/spine), orthopedic, breast and body applications.
IR (interventional radiology) - Applications include the treatment of vascular disease, certain cancers, spinal factures and more. For more information on interventional radiology please see www.sirweb.org
Nuclear - We perform routine general nuclear medicine studies.
X-ray - All routine x-ray imaging including fluoroscopy-guided procedures, such as upper and lower GI studies. Community South’s locations use the latest all-digital imaging equipment.
Ultrasound - Applications include vascular, obstetric evaluation, abdominal/pelvic disorders and evaluation, thyroid disorders, and ultrasound guided interventional procedures.
Mammography - A complete line of breast health services including digital mammography, ultrasound and MRI.
Bone densitometry - Use of enhanced x-ray technology (DEXA scan) to measure bone loss, often used to diagnose osteoporosis and assess risk for bone fracture.
Your studies will be read by a board-certified and fellowship-trained radiologist who collaborates with your physician and other specialists to ensure prompt and customized care is given.
