Occupational therapy effectively treats individuals with a wide variety of neurological impairments to help them return to functional and meaningful daily living. These impairments may be a result of a brain injury, stroke, Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, spinal cord injury or other neurological deficit. Effective, research-based treatments include:
- Neuromuscular re-education and facilitation to improve the coordination, strength, and function of one’s upper extremity.
- Remediation and compensation of visual-motor and visual inattention deficits.
- Cognitive rehabilitation to improve attention, memory, and problem solving to facilitate returning to home, work, school and community.
