Hook Rehabilitation Center

Hook Rehab celebrates 35 years

Slideshow of photos from the 35th anniversary celebration

Community Health Network began treating inpatient rehabilitation patients 35 years ago at Community Hospital East. Named for August “Bud” Hook, owner of the former Hook drugstore chain, Hook Rehabilitation Center was the first inpatient rehab center in the state of Indiana. It is an 84-bed comprehensive program dedicated to providing for the rehabilitation needs of individuals who sustain physical disabilities and/or cognitive disabilities.

Hook Rehab primarily services patients with brain injury, stroke and spinal cord injuries and offers the most comprehensive continuum for brain injury rehabilitation in the state, including acute, neurobehavioral and outpatient day treatment programs. Hook Rehab also has the only semi-independent-living home allowing patients with brain injury to transition to a home environment while undergoing intensive daily outpatient therapies.

“Our 35th anniversary serves as a reminder of the tens of thousands of people who have entrusted their care to us over the years,” says Doug Beebe, executive director of Hook. “We have had the privilege of serving people in a unique model of holistic rehabilitation that is practiced in very few places. The result has been a destination program that has created referrals for the brain injury program from hospitals across Indiana and the Midwest, while still serving our original population of patients from the east side and surrounding neighborhoods as they strive to return to their lives.”

About Hook Rehab

Established in 1974, Hook Rehabilitation Center was the first inpatient rehabilitation center in Indiana. The Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) accredits Hook Rehabilitation Center for comprehensive rehabilitation in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Hook has also received special designation from CARF for the following rehab programs: brain injury rehab for adolescents and adults and stroke rehab for adolescents and adults.

Hook Rehab once again achieved the highest level of CARF (Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities) accreditation in May 2009. All of its rehab programs met the stringent requirements necessary to receive this designation of superior quality of care.
