According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the following are some of the common health problems associated with travel to developing countries:

  • traveler's diarrhea (by far the most common risk - affecting 30 percent to 50 percent of international travelers)
  • enterotoxic E. coli diarrhea
  • malaria
  • acute febrile respiratory tract infections
  • hepatitis A
  • gonorrhea
  • animal bites with rabies risk
  • hepatitis B
  • typhoid fever
  • HIV infection
  • Legionella infection
  • cholera
  • meningococcal disease
