2008 Employee Campaign

"I give because I care." That’s the theme of the 2008 Community Health Network Foundation employee campaign. "The idea for this campaign was to have employees tell the story of the foundation to other employees," says Ryan Chelli, director of philanthropic marketing and communications for the foundation. "Our goal is to increase the number of employee donors by letting them tell the story of what we do every day."
The campaign ran through April 30 and the foundation’s goal was to raise $250,000. During a recent leadership retreat, mangers, directors and leaders were asked to contribute a leadership gift to the campaign prior to its launch. So far, $125,000 has been donated by network leadership to show their commitment to the campaign and the foundation.

Foundation gift helps bring one-man play to Indianapolis
Community Health Network joined a coalition of mental health organizations, AMHPA (Awareness of Mental Health through the Performing Arts), to bring poet, playwrite, and performer Michael Mack from Massachusetts to Indianapolis to perform his autobiographical, 90-minute play entitled HEARING VOICES (SPEAKING IN TONGUES). This one-man play, which is his perspective of growing up with a mother who had schizophrenia, details the experience of a young boy and his growing recognition that, in spite of her mental illness, his mother had gifts to give him and those around her. The foundation contributed $5,000 to make the performance possible.
Foundation supports patient book about coping with cancer
One of Community Health Network’s former patients, Yopi Havlik, a five-year breast cancer survivor, has written and published a children’s book with the Community Health Network Foundation’s support. The nonfiction children’s book, Why is Mommy Sleeping?, was written from Havlik’s son’s perspective.
Why is Mommy Sleeping? will be sold for $9.95 in all of Community’s Jasmine gift shops and the FigLeaf boutique. The book features the Community Health Network Foundation logo on the cover and the inside back cover features the foundation’s mission and dedication, written by Zunk.
As part of the arrangement, a portion of the proceeds from Why is Mommy Sleeping? will benefit Community Health Network and more specifically, programs and services of Community Regional Cancer Care. The funds will support equipment purchases, community outreach programs and a healing environment, thus making a difference in the lives of patients and families entrusted to Community’s care and ensuring exceptional patient and family experiences.
