Education

There are many educational avenues to pursue when it comes to health care careers. Options include but are not limited to technical certificates, two-year programs, advanced degrees, hands on instruction, and distance learning. You’re certain to find a program that meets your needs. Please refer to the links and text below for more information about in-network educational programs.

  • School of Radiologic Technology
  • Emergency Medical Services
  • Polysomnography Technologist Training Program: 3-month classroom and clinical training program for certified sleep technicians.
  • Medical Terminology: 12-week courses in basic and advanced medical terminology are offered twice a year.
  • Professional Medical Coding Curriculum (PMCC): 22-week course geared toward learning the proficiency required to correctly code CPT, HCPCS, and ICD-9-CM for medical procedures in the physician setting. After passing the AAPC exam, students will be recognized as a Certified Professional Coder (CPC).

Nursing internships

Typically extended to nursing students or new graduates, they have been designed to build a solid foundation in specific clinical areas which include the following. Click on the links to learn more.

Nursing institutes

Educational programs designed to award contact hours, these institutes support RNs and LPNs in their endeavors to equip themselves with knowledge or update themselves on new issues and trends in the industry. Click on the links below to view these opportunities.

Certification review courses

Demonstrates our commitment to the career development of our nurses. Network employees may receive reimbursement for the cost of certifications from the Community Health Network Foundation. Professional courses specific to units are also available. Certification review course schedules vary and include:

  • Critical Care Certification
    • CCRN certification rewarded by the AACN
    • 2-hour reviews per month on different topics
  • Medical-Surgical Certification
    • Certification awarded by the MSNCB and ANCC
    • 2-day review course offered annually
  • Neuroscience Certification
    • CNRN certification awarded by ABNN
    • 2-day external course supported by the Community Health Network Foundation
  • Obstetrics Certification
    • For family rooms, a course is offered to prepare nurses for the inpatient Obstetrics certification exam
    • 2-day course offered annually
  • Oncology Certification
    • Certification awarded by the ONS
    • 2-day review course with clinical experts
  • Orthopaedic Certification
    • ONC certification awarded by ONCB
    • Personalized guidance for review with the hours eligible to be counted as continuing education credits
  • Physical Rehabilitation Certification
    • CCRN certification awarded by ARN
    • 2-day review course that is eligible to be counted as continuing education credits

Other nursing programs and training

  • Student Nurse Extern Program: a career development opportunity and offered to candidates who are actively enrolled in a Registered Nurse program, have two semesters of previous clinical experience, and are in good academic standing. As a program participant you will:
    • Perform a variety of nursing treatments
    • Practice assessment skills under the direction of an RN
    • Gain phlebotomy skills
    • Perform all patient care activities
    • Dispense medications after passing Community Clinical Education exams
  • Nursing Refresher Course: a 7-week, part-time classroom and clinical course for R.N.s and L.P.N.s. It is offered twice a year and held on our Community Hospital East campus. The offering is for the nurse who is currently licensed in Indiana but has been inactive in a hospital nursing career for 5 years or longer.

Tuition assistance

Community gives you more than a great place to work and generous benefits. We provide the chance to chart your course to your personal and professional goals. Whatever direction you’re headed, the network's tuition assistance programs can help you get there. Please see your employers' ABC book on InComm for details on this generous offering.

Scholarships

With the support of the Foundation, Community is able to award a substantial amount of money in scholarships each year to employees and their relatives. Scholarships range anywhere from $1,000 to $10,000 depending on degree, program status, and length of commitment. Scholarship application and information packets are available each October and February on InComm and in the Employee Service Centers.
