Patient and visitor information

Community Health Network adopts new visitor restriction policy at all hospitals

Beginning October 16, 2009, the network’s Indianapolis hospitals are limiting visits to immediate family members of patients, allowing only visitors who are 18 and older, and permitting only two visitors at a time per patient. Those who visit are asked to first check in at the information desk to be screened with a series of questions related to flu-like symptoms. Learn more

Hospitals are large and sometimes confusing places. We hope this information will answer some of your basic questions about Community Hospital East. We want you to be able to concentrate on what's important: your health and the health of your family and loved ones.

General visiting hours

Adults and children may visit. All visitors must be free of exposure to chicken pox or other communicable diseases and free of fever. Hospitals are full of patients fighting germs. Small children and individuals who have poor immune systems should beware. Visiting children must have adult supervision at all times.

• Intensive Coronary Care Unit (ICCU)
  8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  Visitation is limited to two persons at a time.

• Critical Care
  Visitation is limited to two persons at a time. No visitors are allowed from 7:00 a.m. to 8:30 a.m., and from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. No food or drink is allowed on the unit or in patient rooms at any time. Patients may have silk flowers only, no live flowers or plants.

• Orthopedics/Neurology
  11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  Visitation is limited to two persons at a time.

• Cardiovascular Unit
  1 p.m. to 8 p.m.

• Rehabilitation
  Monday - Friday: 4 p.m. to 9 p.m.
  Saturday - Sunday: 12 p.m. to 9 p.m.
  Holidays: 12 p.m. to 9 p.m.

• Subacute Rehabiliation
  Open visitation

• Oncology
  8 a.m. to 10 p.m.
  One family member may stay all night between 10 p.m. and 8 a.m. Children are permitted.

• Family Rooms
  Immediate family unlimited.
  Other visitors: 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

• Special Care Nursery
  Parents unlimited except during report and/or special procedures. Family members may visit with parents. Visitation is restricted to two persons at a time.
  

Parking

Visitor parking is free in the east parking lot and parking garage.

Valet parking is available free of charge and is available at the main entrance from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tips are not required or accepted.

ATM

An ATM is located just outside the cafeteria entrance.

Cafeteria and refreshments

The cafeteria is open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Java City—Gourmet coffees, teas, other beverages and a variety of pastries can be found at Java City in the lobby. Java City is open Monday through Thursday 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., Friday 7 a.m. to 2 p.m., closed on Saturday and Sunday.

Vending machines are available 24 hours a day across from the cafeteria’s entrance.

Jasmine gift shop

During your visit, be sure to stop by the original gift shop in the Community's portfolio of retail outlets for all of your patient and family needs. Shop for unique gifts, snacks, logo apparel and everything your loved ones may need during their visit to Community Hospital East.

Pastoral/spiritual care

Chaplains serve by assisting patients in mobilizing their personal, spiritual resources and religious faith to progress towards health. They help to provide pastoral care, counseling and sacraments. They also assist with ethical concerns and advance directives. Contact the Community Hospital East chaplain's office at 317-355-5654.

Cell phones

Cell phones are allowed except in patient treatment areas as their signal could interfere with medical equipment in use.

Smoking

The hospital and the entire Community Hospital East campus are tobacco-free environments.

Smoking has been shown not only to compromise the health of those who smoke, but others who come into contact with the smoke. Therefore, in keeping with our mission to promote the health, wellness and comfort of our patients and employees, smoking is not permitted.
