Pediatric neurology

Community Health Network offers specialized neurological care for patients from birth to 16 years of age. Diagnostic evaluation and follow-up care is available for a variety of neurological issues, including:

  • Epilepsy
  • Seizures
  • “Funny spells” that might be seizures
  • Headache
  • Sleep disorders
  • Cerebral palsy
  • Autism
  • Learning disabilities

Testing

Some patients may need additional testing before or at the time of their visit. Testing may include:

  • Psychometric testing
  • Physical/occupational and speech evaluations and therapy
  • Diagnostic tests (EEG, sleep studies, etc.)
  • Imaging (MRI, CT, etc.)

Sleep studies are performed in the dedicated pediatric sleep study rooms at Community Hospital North.

Appointments

Appointments at Community Pediatric Neurology may be made by physician referral. Patients that need to be seen urgently can usually be accommodated.

About our staff

Debra O'Donnell, M.D.Debra O’Donnell, M.D. is a pediatric neurologist at Community Health Network. Prior to working at Community, Dr. O’Donnell served as director of epilepsy for DeVos Children’s Hospital in Grand Rapids, Michigan. With more than 10 years of experience, her areas of special interest include the treatment of epilepsy, seizures and sleep disorders.

A native of Ft. Wayne, Dr. O’Donnell completed her undergraduate training at Baylor University and received her medical degree from Indiana University Medical Center. She trained in pediatrics at IU, followed by a neurology residency at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas, where she received an E.L. Wehner Epilepsy Fellowship. Dr. O’Donnell is board certified in neurology with special qualifications in child neurology and pediatrics. She is also a member of the American Epilepsy Society, Child Neurology Society, Epilepsy Foundation of America and the American Academy of Pediatrics.

Dr. O’Donnell is accepting patients from birth to 16 years of age at her practice, Community Pediatric Neurology, on the Community Hospital North campus. Children age 17 and older are seen on a case-by-case basis.
