Community Heart and Vascular

Bringing together the best in cardiovascular care

In January 2009, The Indiana Heart Hospital, over 30 cardiovascular physicians and Community Health Network created Community Heart and Vascular, the first integrated model for cardiovascular care in central Indiana. At Community Heart and Vascular, leadership is uniquely achieved through partnerships between heart physicians and clinical administrators, increasing alignment in quality, safety and service to patients, families and other physicians in the hospital and the medical office.

Ask a Cardiovascular Physician

Question: Electrical Impulses—I am 52, a smoker, and in good health. Oftentimes when I am just falling asleep, I will experience what feels like an electrical shock on my left side that jolts me awake, oftentimes my body jumps a bit because of it. It appears to be more from under the surface then from the heart itself but is very strange. I have read online of others that experience the same thing. Can you comment what this might be a result of?

Answer: Thank you for your question and for being honest about your current health status. First and foremost the most important and immediate action step you should take to lower your risk of heart or blood vessel disease is to quit smoking. Without knowing your detailed smoking history or how long it has been since you last quit, we can say that there a numerous new support methods available to help you stay quit....
