Cancer Care physicians - medical oncologists

Medical oncology is the subspecialty of oncology that involves use of medical and chemotherapeutic treatments of cancer.

Medical oncology services are provided on a specialized nursing unit at Community Hospital East and through medical and surgical beds at Community Hospital North and Community Hospital South.

Community Hospital North/East

Pablo Bedano, M.D.

Pablo Bedano, M.D., is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine. He completed his residency and a hemetology oncology fellowship at Indiana University School of Medicine. In addition, he holds a master’s degree in clinical research and has been involved in multiple clinical trials.

Dr. Bedano’s areas of special interest and expertise are genitourinary malignancies, head and neck cancers, thoracic oncology, breast cancer and melanoma. In addition to his clinical research experience, he has been published in numerous medical journals and awarded several grants, awards and fellowships. He is a member of American Society of Clinical Oncology and American Society of Hematology.

Sumeet Bhatia, M.D.

Dr. Bhatia is board certified in oncology, hematology and internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine. He graduated from the University of Bombay Medical College, Bombay, India, and completed his residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine, Farmington, Connecticut, with a fellowship in Hematology/Oncology at the Indiana University School of Medicine, Indianapolis, Indiana. He is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology and the Indiana State Medical Association.

William M. Dugan, Jr., M.D.

Dr. Dugan is board certified in oncology and internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine. He is board eligible in hematology. He graduated from the Indiana University School of Medicine, Indianapolis, Indiana, and went on to complete his residency in Internal Medicine at Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis, Indiana, where he served as Chief Resident. He completed a fellowship in Hematology at the Indiana University School of Medicine, Indianapolis, Indiana. He is a member of the American Medical Association, American Society of Clinical Oncology, American Society of Hematology, American Society of Internal Medicine, Indiana Medical Oncology Society, Indiana State Medical Association, and the Marion County Medical Society.

Shivaji R. Gunale, M.D.

Dr. Gunale is board certified in oncology and internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine. He is board eligible in hematology. He graduated from the Government Medical College, Marathwada University, Aurangabad, India, and completed his residency in Internal Medicine at Mercy Hospital. His fellowship was in Oncology and Hematology at Borgess Hospital. He is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology, American College of Physicians, Association of Community Cancer Centers, Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group, Hoosier Oncology Group, Indiana State Medical Association, and the Marion County Medical Society.

Radhika Walling, M.D.

Dr. Walling completed her fellowship at Emory University School of Medicine (Atlanta, Georgia), where she served as senior chief fellow. Dr. Walling is board certified in hematology and oncology. She graduated from the Medical College of Wisconsin, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and completed her residency in Internal Medicine at Case Western University, Metro Health Medical Center, Cleveland, Ohio. She is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology, American Society of Hematology, and the American Medical Association.

Community Hospital South

Hemachandra Venkatesh, M.D.

Dr. Venkatesh graduated from Bangalore Medical College in Bangalore, India, in 1982. He completed his internal medicine residency at Grace Hospital at Wayne State University and completed a fellowship in hematology/oncology at the National Cancer Institute. He has published numerous research articles and co-authored a chapter on Burkitt’s lymphoma in a current oncology text book.

Dr. Venkatesh has expertise and interest in treating all solid tumors including lung, breast, gastrointestinal and genitourinary tumors. He also has special interest in treating lymphoma, leukemia, myeloma, bleeding disorders, thrombophilia and benign hereditary problems. He uses state-of-the-art therapies coupled with personalized, compassionate care. He is a member of the American Society of Hematology and the American Society of Clinical Oncology.
