Extern opportunities for medical students
The Family Medicine Residency Program offers a paid externship for third and fourth year medical students interested in becoming a family physician. The student must be in good standing at the IU School of Medicine and demonstrate excellent communication skills. The externship will be available from April through December. Available hours are:
- Monday through Friday, 6 to 10 p.m.
- Saturday and Sunday, noon to 5 p.m. or 6 to 10 p.m.
Each applicant accepted will be required to attend orientation and to have an employee health screening. Externs will be covered by malpractice insurance through Community Health Network.
The student will work with the senior resident on call. This will require the student to attend, assist or participate in all necessary patient care including, but not limited to, neonatal resuscitations; ER admits; evaluation of STAT calls, deliveries and codes; and other patient care needs as directed by the senior resident.
Interested students should contact Sally Wagner, program coordinator of the Family Medicine Residency Program, to secure an application. She may be contacted at swagner@eCommunity.com or 317-355-2643. Please provide your name, year in medical school, daytime phone number and e-mail address.
