Pediatric intensive care

Vin Gupta, M.D., joined Community Hospital North in the fall of 2012. Dr. Gupta completed his medical degree and pediatric residency training at the Medical College of Ohio. He followed that with a fellowship in Pediatric Critical Care Medicine at Duke University Medical Center/Duke Children’s Hospital. Dr. Gupta is Board Certified in both Pediatrics and Pediatric Critical Care Medicine through the American Board of Pediatrics.

In 2012, Dr. Gupta was recognized as a Fellow of the American College of Critical Care Medicine (FCCM). This "ICU Honors Society" accept individuals who have demonstrated excellence in collaborative multi-professional critical care practice, education, research, program development, advocacy, and leadership. Fellows are recognized for their significant contributions and impact on the profession at a regional, state, or national level. His clinical interests include conventional and non-conventional mechanical ventilation, procedural sedation, resident education, and medical simulator education.

Pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) at Community Hospital North

Dr. Gupta helps to oversee all of the current pediatric inpatient services at Community  Hospital North. He also helped to develop the new pediatric intensive care unit and service line that opened in January 2013. “The new PICU at Community North will allow critically ill children to receive the specialized care they need close to home.” says Gupta. Currently, children requiring care in a PICU are transferred out of their local area. With the opening of Community Hospital North’s PICU, many families facing the stress of having a critically ill child will no longer have the added burden of long, expensive commutes.

This will significantly expand the pediatric services that Community North will be able to offer the organization, the Northern Indianapolis community, and most importantly our patients and their families. The unit is family focused and believes in the importance of parental involvement. Supporting the intensivist is a multidisciplinary team of skilled professionals (hospitalists, nurses, respiratory therapists, etc.), specialty and sub-specialty physicians who provide the highest quality of care for patients and their families.
