Community Hospital South awarded stroke certification from the Joint Commission; All Indianapolis-area Community Hospitals have designation, standardized stroke care
After undergoing an on-site evaluation and demonstrating compliance with nationally developed standards for stroke care, Community Hospital South has earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval™ for certification as a Primary Stroke Center. Community Hospital North received the designation in May 2011, while Community Hospital East received it in 2008. The stroke certification for all Indianapolis Community Hospitals means standardized stroke care will be performed at each site. Full story >>

Community Hospital East has been ranked ninth in neurology and neurosurgery in U.S. News Media & World Report’s 2011-12 Best Hospitals rankings, available online at www.usnews.com/besthospitals. Community Hospital North has earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of ApprovalTM as a Primary Stroke Center by demonstrating compliance with The Joint Commission’s national standards for health care quality and safety in disease-specific care. Community Hospital East receives national award for stroke treatment
The American Heart Association/American Stroke Association has awarded Community Hospital East a bronze Performance Achievement Award for achieving targeted percentages of Get With The Guidelines® Stroke performance measurements.
Get With The Guidelines® is a national quality improvement program that helps hospitals apply American Heart Association and American Stroke Association guidelines to the treatment of heart disease and stroke and improve patient care and outcomes.
To qualify for the award, Community Hospital East teams achieved at least 90 consecutive days of 85 percent or higher adherence to all stroke performance achievement indicators. Interestingly, Community Hospital East achieved 100% on all indicators during that specific time period!
“The Community Hospital East Stroke Team was extremely excited and honored to receive this bronze award,” said Deb Ferguson MSN RN Neuroscience CNS who commented for the stroke team. “This honor demonstrates the quality of stroke care provided to our patients and our community on a daily basis, along with the team’s goal to attain silver and gold status in future years.”
